Accounting Manager - Houston, TX

Cenikor Foundation is a non-profit organization and one of the largest substance abuse treatment centers in the nation. We are currently seeking an Accounting Manager in our corporate office located in Houston, TX.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting department functions to ensure efficiency and compliance. Monitor contracts to ensure utilization of funding, appropriate allocation of costs, and compliance for all applicable rules, laws, and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department and supervise the Corporate accounting employees.
  2. Manage and oversee the accounting functions such as assessing the accuracy of accounting data, and accounts payable and receivable.
  3. Interact with the accounting/business team to ensure all responsibilities are completed accurately and timely.
  4. Assist with the preparation of the monthly financial statements, to be completed by the 5th business day.
  5. Conduct revenue and expenditure variance analysis to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of operations.  Document and communicate outcomes, and make recommendations to the facility/program management team.
  6. Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, allocations, estimates, policies, and principles.
  7. Coordinate and assist with completion of annual financial audits.
  8. Conduct internal audits and assessments of accounting procedures and provide recommendations to improve systems and initiate corrective action.
  9. Monitor and analyze accounting data to produce financial reports and statements for the management team.
  10. Manage the contracts to ensure all costs are allocated to the appropriate cost centers. Develop and maintain a system for tracking all allocated contract costs.
  11. Monitor contracts to ensure utilization of funding. Document and communicate outcomes to the facility/program management team.
  12. Monitor contract funding and utilization to ensure staffing is aligned with target funding mix and staff to client ratio requirements.  Document and communicate recommendations to human resources and the management team to facilitate appropriate staffing levels.
  13. Review and monitor contracts or agreements to ensure financial compliance of applicable rules and regulations. Research and prepare related reports as needed.  Establish schedules and process to ensure contract compliance and documentation. 
  14. Make recommendations for improvement and/or change to existing standards and procedures.
  15. Maintain timeline for RFPs, including deadlines for proposals.
  16. Act as an internal resource to enhance awareness and understanding of best practices, risk management and use of controls by management and staff.
  17. Uphold the core principles of Cenikor’s culture and create a positive working environment for all team members.
  18. Maintain strict confidentiality on all client and foundation matters.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned and consistent with the exempt functions as defined in this job description.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to have excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with great attention to detail and accurately record numerical data.
  • Experienced in working with diverse population.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required, including MS Excel and Outlook calendar.
  • Travel up to 15% required.
  • Strong ethical and business standards.
  • Ability to lead by established goals and objectives.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three to five years of accounting experience required.
  • Minimum of one to two years of contract compliance experience required.
  • Experience in working with governmental licensing agencies preferred.
  • Experience with health care or education is preferred.
