Mental Health Counselor (long-term) (LPC required) - Deer Park, TX

(LPC required) Cenikor Foundation is a non-profit organization and one of the largest substance abuse treatment centers in the nation. We are currently seeking a Mental Health Counselor for our facility located in Deer Park, TX.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing counseling and support services to individuals experiencing mental health and substance abuse issues. Works to promote optimum mental and emotional health. Develops and maintains referral sources for mental health clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide mental health and/or substance abuse counseling and support to individuals, families and groups in the community.
  2. Assess and diagnose clients’ mental status through interviews and observations, and develop treatment plans or make referrals to the appropriate services.
  3. Provide group counseling and educational groups as requested.
  4. Provide crisis intervention services to clients who are a danger to themselves or others.
  5. Conducts self as a rational authority and role model within the therapeutic community modality.
  6. Work in conjunction with all facility staff to facilitate a safe environment for client recovery.
  7. Contribute to client care by participating in clinical staff meetings to review client progress and treatment plans, and report caseload activities to supervisor.
  8. Ensure documentation is entered into the electronic health record and deadlines for completion are met consistently.
  9. Work closely with Clinical Manager to uphold the core principles of Cenikor’s culture and contribute to a positive working environment for all team members.
  10. Maintain compliance with federal and state regulatory standards as well as Cenikor policies and procedures.
  11. Maintain strict confidentiality on all client and foundation matters and refer questionable issues to your supervisor.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned and consistent with the non-exempt functions as defined in this job description.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
    • diagnosis and treatment of mental health and substance abuse issues
    • the causes and symptoms of mental health issues
    • prevention strategies
    • needs and risk assessment
    • substance abuse
    • family dynamics
    • the impact of trauma
    • an understanding of crisis management
  • Knowledgeable of therapeutic community philosophy.
  • Willingness to adhere to the therapeutic community modality.
  • Possesses good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experienced and/or knowledgeable in providing education and therapeutic counseling for individuals.
  • Capable of discerning facts from opinions and remaining objective when listening to conflicting opinions.
  • Experienced in working with diverse population.
  • Possesses good time management skills needed to meet aggressive deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Patience, perseverance, and resilience in a challenging environment.
  • Presents a professional, positive image.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required, including specific MS Outlook calendar experience.

Education:

  • Master’s degree required

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of mental health and/or substance abuse treatment experience preferred
  • Knowledge/experience with dual diagnosis clients preferred
  • Willingness to work evenings or Saturdays if needed

Licensure Required:

  •  LPC required
